Eurovision 2021

Eurovision 2021 is over and everyone in the group of friends I watched the finale with agreed that it was one of the strongest shows of recent years. And a delightfully queer one!

From being co-hosted by trans YouTube star Nikkie de Jager to Italian winners Måneskin kissing on stage (plus having a bisexual band member of course). And lead singer Damiano David being a hell of a look during the winner’s press conference…

…talking of looks. His outfit probably made Matthías Haraldsson very proud. He rocked a similar vibe during Hatari’s amazing performance at Eurovision 2019 for Iceland.

This year Iceland was represented by the adorable Daði og Gagnamagnið who were the big favourite to win last year with this amazing bop when the show got cancelled due to Corona.

And because life isn’t fair, they couldn’t perform live this year either after a band member got diagnosed with, you guessed it, Corona. Their song, recorded during a rehearsal and shown during the finale, got them an amazing fourth place nonetheless.

Other than that I enjoyed Malta’s entry which was a really decent electro swing number that rightfully landed them in the top 10. Finnish Nu Metal act Blind Channel did prove that Hatari wasn’t a one-off and that metal can consistently do well at Eurovision, something that makes me extremely happy. Maybe next year we can have some goth or industrial? ;)
